The island community of James Island is located just south of downtown Charleston. The barrier island is separated from the peninsula by the Ashley River and from other areas by the Wappoo Creek, StonoRiver and Folly River. It also adjoins Folly Beach, an eclectic beach community on the Atlantic Ocean.
An abundance of marshes and creeks makes James Island one of the most scenic areas in all of Charleston. The laid-back community has many local restaurants, shops and services, along with great parks including the 600+ acre James Island County Park and the waterfront Melton Peter Demetre Park on Charleston Harbor. The Terrace Shopping center is home to several local restaurants and shops along with an independently owned movie theatre–the only one on the island. It’s close proximity to downtown Charleston and Folly Beach are also selling points of the island.
James island has a variety of home styles including single-family ranch homes, planned communities, apartment rentals, condos and more.
