The barrier island is bordered by the Folly River and the Atlantic Ocean, conveniently located approximately twenty minutes from historic downtown Charleston.
Known by locals as the “Edge of America”, Folly offers a relaxing getaway where you can enjoy breathtaking sunrises, walks along the beach and water sports such paddleboarding, fishing and surfing “The Washout.” Folly Beach County Park sits at the end of the island and offers everything you need to enjoy a day at the beach including restrooms, outdoor showers, a picnic area, snackbar and beach chair and umbrella rentals. At the other end of the island you’ll find the Morris Island Lighthouse, an iconic symbol of Folly, that was named to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. Vibrant restaurants, neighborhood bars and local shops are located along Center Street, which serves as the island’s main thoroughfare.
