Welcome to
Johns Island
Separated from James Island and West Ashley by the Stono River, Johns Island is a sea island community that is developing. Once a largely rural community, there has been a lot of activity over the past few years including new planned residential neighborhoods and an increase in commercial businesses including new shops and restaurants. Three main roads on the island, Maybank Highway, River Road and Main Road, serve as the island’s major arteries, with businesses, restaurants, shops and communities located alongside them.
The island is home to several noteworthy sites including Angel Oak, one of the oldest trees east of the Mississippi, and Johns Island County Park, a 700+ acre park with wooded trails for walkers, runners and equestrians. There are still several operational farms on the island which are responsible for providing much of the city’s local produce.
Homes on the island range from waterfront estates to newer construction single family homes, condos and even newly built apartments.
